Break a Leg!

We were supposed to be arriving in Ecuador about now, and arriving at our new penthouse condo in Cuenca a little after midnight.

Less than 12 hours before we were to leave for the San Francisco airport, we were still finishing the last minute packing. Evelyn was saying “there is no way we can finish this today!”  And… I was falling down the stairs with one of those last boxes in my arms.

I spent the rest of the day at the hospital, and had surgery last night to repair 3 breaks in my ankle.  I am not allowed to fly for at least two weeks, and “strongly recommend six weeks,” so I am currently confined to one floor of our three-floor California home, hobbling around like a cripple, and sleeping most of the day away.

Everything is on hold right now.  Retirement and Ecuador are still coming, but just a tad later than first expected…

  1. Burt,
I had hoped this was news from you that you and Evelyn were in town. I await your arrival. But take your time and get healed.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make your arrival easier. Where are the keys to the condo? Do you need me to do any errands or such on the ground here for you? Your stored boxes await you.
    all the best,

  2. Burt,
I am truly sorry I was not the first to make a cruel joke that I will take your place or some such foolery , but I WILL TAKE YOUR PLACE IF YOU MAKE ONE. MORE MISTAKE. Just sayin. After our floods, we must be havin 80mph winds this evening. A calm drink at the beach sounds pretty good right now

    Take Care

  3. Oh. Burt, I am so sorry to hear that. What an unexpected turn of events! I was just about to send you and Evelyn an email to see if you arrived in your new home safely. Well, it is great to have you guys here for a few more weeks. I was feeling kind of sad to see you guys move away permanently. Take a good care of yourselves and keep us posted with your progress.

  4. Burt,

We hope you have a rapid recovery. Good thing the new apartment has an elevator!

We look forward to seeing you and Evelyn in Cuenca after we arrive on January 8.
